New Delhi: Six people were thrashed by a mob in Delhi’s Baba Haridas Nagar for allegedly carrying buffalo calves. The mob also vandalised the vehicles reportedly carrying calves a news agency reported.

One of the drivers Ali Jaan has received major injuries while the rest have been discharged from the hospital. An FIR has been registered by Ali Jaan’s son against attackers.

The incident took place even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed to people not to take law in their hands. “Killing people in the name of Gau Bhakti is not acceptable. This is not something Mahatma Gandhi would approve,” Modi had said.

“As a society, there is no place for violence,” he had said. “Violence never has and never will solve any problem.”

There has been a spurt in the number of incidents involving self-styled cow vigilantes and in the cases of lynchings in the country. On June 30, a man accused of carrying beef was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district.
