Nagpur: Acting on the inputs, Gittikhadan police on Wednesday arrested three goons and seized two country-made pistols, 24 live cartridges and four magazines from their possession. One of the accused hailed from Bihar.
The arrested accused have been identified as Abdul Mannan Mohd Rehman (19), native of Mauza Bisnoor, Munger district, Bihar, Hemraj Gopichand Shende (25), and Deepak Premlal Mansure (24), both residents of Jagdish Nagar, Gittikhadan.
A team of Gittikhadan cops led by PSI Sajid Ahmed was on patrol duty on Wednesday. Around 9.30 pm, the team received a tip off that a person was in possession of some arms and roaming in the area. Acting on the tip-off, the cops rushed to the spot and detained the person who was later identified as Abdul Mannan Mohd Rehman. Frisking of the accused led the cops recover a country-made pistol, 14 live cartridges and two magazines hidden in a black bag. The accused was placed under arrest and subjected to interrogation.
During the grilling, the accused Abdul Mannan revealed names of two accomplices who too were in possession a country-made pistol, 10 live cartridges and two magazines. Cops immediately went to the addresses of the two accused — Hemraj Gopichand Shende and Deepak Premlal Mansure – and arrested them. Cops seized one country-made pistol, 10 live cartridges and two magazines from their possession. The collective value of the seized arms is Rs 36,000.
The arrested accused were booked under Section 3+25 of Arms Act read with Section 135 of Maharashtra Police Act.
The arrest and seizure was made by PI R N Waghmare, PSI Sajid Ahmed, head constable Yuvraj Dhole, NPC Santosh under the directive and guidance of Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham, DCP Zone 2 Rakesh Ola, and ACP (Sadar) Deole.
