Nagpur: Tightening the security arrangements at Nagpur Railway Station, 235 high-end cameras have been installed in the premises to keep round the clock watch on every activity happening there. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Somesh Kumar and ADRM inaugurated the CCTV survellience system at the railway station on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15.

Five years back, Nagpur was selected among 10 railway stations in the country for integrated security system. Till now, the survellience was being done with the help of 45 cameras and six monitors. But the equipment and their utility was limited and it was not possible to keep a watch on every corner of this huge railway station. But now, with the new and advanced survellience system of 235 cameras and 10 monitors, every activity in the premises is being watched and recorded by security personnel.

Most of the 235 cameras, installed under the integrated security service system, can rotate and keep vigil on larger area. The Railway Police Force (RPF) has constructed a separate survellience room, where 10 monitors have been placed to keep round the clock watch on the premises. Now even smaller crimes like pick-pocketing can be traced due to these cameras. It is expected that this newly installed system will help control criminal activities in the railway station premises.

The 40 to 45 old cameras of Nagpur Railway Station are likely to be installed at Ajni Railway Station, which sees arrival and departure of over one dozen trains and thousands of passengers but has not a single camera to keep watch on the premises. These cameras will improve security arrangements at Ajni also.

Three years back, a home platform (PF No. 8) was constructed at Nagpur Railway Station at a cost of Rs 9 crores. However, there was neither camera survellience nor regular movement by security personnel on the platform so far. The new survellience system however has its reach on this platform also and at every corner of the station as well.
