2 goons trick, rob elderly woman in novel way

chain snetureNagpur: Two youths on Friday tricked and robbed a 70-year old of her gold jewellery by adopting a novel modus operandi. Cops have booked the two accused goons and searching them.

According to police, the victim Laxmibai Pancham Maundekar (70), resident of Jagnath Budhwari, Nagpur, was returning home walking at about 4.30 pm on Friday. When Laxmibai nearing her home, the two unidentified accused youths, in the age group of 20-25 years, accosted her and told her that their brother has been blessed with son and she should come to their house for blessing the baby boy. Agreeing to the tricksters’ request, Laxmibai went to their house. But before she could bless the baby boy, the two accused asked Laxmibai to remove her gold ornaments she was wearing and keep it in a bag. However, after she blessed the new born, the two accused youths diverted her attention and uncannily emptied the bag of her gold ornaments worth Rs 28,000 and fled the spot. Soon Laxmibai realized that she has been tricked and robbed of her gold ornaments and lodged a complaint with Tehsil Police Station.

Tehsil API Chavan booked the two accused youths under Sections 420, 34 of the IPC and searching for them.
