18-year-old drowns in well while retrieving slipper near Hingna

Nagpur: In a tragic incident, an 18-year-old youth drowned in a well while attempting to retrieve his slipper near Velahari village under the jurisdiction of Hingna Police Station.

The deceased has been identified as Aniket Uttamrao Sontakke, a resident of Bharatmata Nagar on New Narsala Road. According to police sources, Aniket had gone to the Bawadi well along with a friend around 11:00 am on April 12, 2026, to take photographs.

During the outing, his slipper accidentally fell into the well. While trying to retrieve it, he reportedly lost his balance and fell into the water, leading to his drowning.

With the assistance of the fire brigade team, the body was later recovered and sent to AIIMS Hospital Nagpur for further procedures.

Based on information provided by Raj Gopal Sontakke (21), police at Hingna have registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
