Nagpur: After nearly two years of delays caused by statutory and environmental approvals, ground work has finally begun on a 17-storey, 300-room luxury hotel-cum-convention centre in MIHAN, a project expected to be a game changer for Nagpur’s hospitality, business tourism, and event ecosystem, a local daily reported.
Envisioned as Central India’s largest starred hotel, the mega project is located near MIHAN Square, one of the region’s fastest-growing commercial nodes. Once complete, the iconic structure is expected to significantly enhance MIHAN’s appeal for large-scale national and international events, which currently struggle for unified accommodation facilities in the region, the report added.
The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) had awarded the project tender to a Nagpur-based developer in 2022 and allotted a 6.75-acre land parcel on a 66-year lease for Rs 18.50 crore. The total construction investment is estimated to be between Rs 150 crore and Rs 200 crore. While the project was cleared two years ago, execution was stalled due to administrative permissions, pushing the actual commencement to February 2025.
Targeted for completion by April 2029, the hotel will feature two grand banquet halls, one for large-format weddings and another for corporate conventions, each designed to host approximately 3,000 guests, complemented by an expansive ceremonial lawn.
“This project fills a critical gap in Nagpur’s hospitality infrastructure,” a company spokesperson said. “Organisers of major events are presently compelled to split bookings across several hotels due to the absence of a property with more than 200 rooms under one roof. With MIHAN’s growing footprint, a hotel of this scale is not just desirable, it is essential.”
According to the project architect, the development will set new benchmarks in luxury and design, featuring a dedicated wellness floor on the third level with a swimming pool, spa, gym, and salons. The rocky terrain necessitated shifting parking and service spaces to the ground level, while prime guest amenities would rise above on the first-floor podium.
Once operational, the hotel is expected to redefine MIHAN’s positioning as a business and convention destination, complement ongoing aviation, IT, and industrial expansion in the region.
