160 persons arrested for illegal trafficking of minor minerals in district, informs Collector Kurve

In a major action, the District Administration cracked down on illegal trafficking of minor minerals over a period from April to August this year and arrested 160 accused persons by filing 80 criminal cases against them. The detection of cases this year is higher than the corresponding period last year. Similarly, fine amount recovred from the offenders is also one and half times bigger than the last year. The Revenue and Police Department undertook a massive drive to unearth illegal trafficking of minor minerals. A total of 80 criminal cases were registered and 160 offenders were arrested, said District Collector Sachin Kurve.

The Collector further said that last year till August (2014-15), 8 criminal cases were registered and 16 accused were arrested. Following are the comparative figures of recovery of minor minerals of 2014-15 and 2015-16:
