Nagpur: A 16-year old girl was raped by a teenage boy by doling out marriage promise. The accused rapist and his friend on whose house the heinous act was perpetrated were booked. It could not be verified whether the friend of the accused also exploited the girl sexually.
A resident of Aradhana Nagar, Nandanvan, the accused has been identified as Shubham Bhimrao Kanharkar (19). The 16-year old girl, probably staying in the same area, was lured by the accused Shubham with marriage promise. On May 14, 2018, Shubham took the girl to house of his friend Yash Rajesh Gadekar (19) and raped her between 5.30 pm and 8 pm. It could not be verified whether the friend of the accused also exploited the girl sexually. The rape survivor registered a case against the accused with Nandanvan police only on June 7 for reasons better known to her.
Nandanvan API Lepade, acting on the girl’s complaint, booked the accused Shubham Kanharkar and his friend under Sections 363, 376, 201 of the IPC read with Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Further probe is underway.
