Student of Montfort School kidnapped by car-borne gang in Sonegaon area

Chaitanya Subhash Ashthankar, a Class VIII student of Montfort School, was abducted while he was returning home around 2.45 pm on Thursday.

Chaitanya Subhash Ashthankar kidnapped boyNagpur: In a sensational incident, bringing memories of Yug Chandak case alive in the minds of citizens, a 14-year old boy was reportedly kidnapped by a gang of car-borne desperadoes while he was returning home from school on Thursday afternoon. After being informed about the abduction, Sonegaon police have swung into action and have mounted a massive search to trace the boy.

According to an FIR filed by Subhash Atmaram Ashthankar (50), resident of Plot No. 39, Popular Society, Manish Nagar, his son Chaitanya (14), as usual went to his school, Montfort School situated at Chinchbhavan, Jamtha Fata. The Class VIII student Chaitanya left home at 6.45 am to be picked by school bus from a stop near Bank of Bikaner, Beltarodi Road. Generally, Chaitanya returns home by 2.30 pm. However, on Thursday, Subhash Ashthankar, who is teacher at Salaidabha School, received a phone call at 2.45 pm from his wife Sunanda (who is also teacher at Vadgaon Gujar Primary School) and she told Subhash that she was just now told by her daughter Gayatri that Chaitanya has not returned from school. Gayatri further told that Chaitanya was abducted by a gang travelling in a Maruti Eeco car. The moment Subhash was informed about the kidnapping of Chaitanya, he rushed to home to confirm the kidnapping fact. Vikas (name changed), a friend of Chaitanya, told Subhash that after the school was over and the school bus dropped him and Chaitanya near Bank of Bikaner, Beltarodi Road stop. Both started walking to home.

But when they reached near Navnit Decoration midway, 4-5 persons arrived there in a silver-coloured Maruti Eeco car. One of them deboarded the car and forcible took Chaitanya in the car and sped away from the spot. Vikas  described the man who took Chaitanya into car as a slim, height around 5’8”, wheatish colour, wearing white coloured shirt and gray pant. Vikas further told Subhash that he would recognize the man if he sights him again.
Sonegaon police, after registering a case on the basis of Subhash Ashthankar’s complaint, swung into action. They reportedly alerted the higher officials and also other police stations. A massive searched has been mounted to trace the Maruti Eeco car in which Chaitanya was taken away.

Till the filing of reports the whereabouts of Chaitanya have not been known. Further details are awaited.
