Nagpur: In a major step towards strengthening the safety of students, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to install 1,360 CCTV cameras across 116 municipal schools in the city.
Emphasizing that student safety is as important as education, the civic body aims to create a secure environment for students, particularly for girls. According to NMC officials, CCTV surveillance will help ensure the safety of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff within school premises.
In line with the state government’s directive making CCTV installation mandatory in all schools, NMC has made the necessary budgetary provision for this initiative. Of the 116 municipal schools, 88 are primary schools and 28 are secondary schools. Earlier, 34 schools were already equipped with cameras, and now the remaining 82 schools will soon be brought under surveillance.
As per the plan, 256 cameras will be installed in 36 primary schools, 496 cameras in 46 upper primary schools, and 608 cameras in 34 high schools.
The monitoring of these CCTV systems will be handled by the respective school principals and education officers. Additionally, NMC will establish a centralized control room to oversee all cameras across its schools. This will allow authorities to detect and prevent any untoward incidents in real time.
Officials stated that this initiative will significantly contribute to building a safe and worry-free learning environment for students across Nagpur’s municipal schools.
