13 yr old hangs self after mother refuses to give Rs 5; cops probing murder angle

Nagpur/Amravati: In an incident that draws worrying lines to the parents raising their teen kids, a 13-year-old boy committed suicide in Amravati Municipal Corporation school. The deceased Alkesh Rameshwar Mohod, a resident of Kapilvastu Nagar, was the student of Std. VII at AMC’s Vilas Nagar Marathi medium school. It is learnt that Alkesh had demanded Rs 5 from his mother. But she refused and slapped Alkesh on his face. Immediately after this he went out of his home. AMC’s district education officer Ashok Wakode and head master Wankhede said Alkesh was upset after he did not get money from his mother. However, it was not ascertained whether he ended his life because of this reason.

The incident came to light on Tuesday noon at 12. His body was found hanging with a tree on the school premises. A few locals sighted the body and informed head master of the school.

According to sources, Alkesh reached school at 12 noon on Monday. At 5 pm he came back to his home as usual. But a few minutes later, he once again went somewhere and did not return.

In the late night, his parents went out to look after him. When all their efforts proved futile, they lodged a missing report with Gadgenagar police.

However, the cops too failed to search him. On Tuesday morning, Alkesh’s parents rushed to the school at 11 am. They met head master Rahul Wankhede and narrated entire incident to him.

Wankhede along with teachers, other staff members and students looked after the missing Alkesh.

In the meantime, a few people approached him and informed that they saw body of a child hanging with the tree of the backside of the school.

Shocked Wankhede rushed to the spot. He identified the boy as Alkesh and informed police. Gadge nagar police station in-charge Pundkar took no time in reaching the spot of incident with his team. They brought down Alkesh’s body from the tree and send it to district hospital for postmortem.

In the meantime, the news spread like a wildfire in the city. A huge crowd gathered at the spot of incident. Assistant commissioner Cheta Tidke also examined the scene.

According to police Alkesh’s body was hanging with a stoll. He was wearing the school uniform. It was assumed that Alkesh entered the school premises from the crematorium, which is situated behind AMC school. Alkesh was good in study, hence there were speculations that he was murdered and then hanged with the tree. Cops are further investigating.

The incident sent jitters to students of AMC school in Vilas Nagar. The school administration also announced one day leave to all the students barring some of the close friends of Alkesh. There were 33 students in his class. All these students were questioned. Corporation school sans security guard.

The incident also brought to fore poor security arrangements at the school. Alkesh jumped into the school premises from the boundary wall and no one noticed him. Investigations revealed that guard was not appointed for the school.
