11 year-old girl dead body found in canal; Locals stage protest

New Delhi.

An eleven-year-old girl was found murdered in outer Delhi’s K N Katju Marg area on Saturday night. Police said the child was missing since last Sunday and a case of kidnapping was registered at the Narela police station. Preliminary investigations suggest that the child was strangled before being dumped. Sexual assault has not been ruled out by police.

It was April 21 when child,11, left home after being scolded by her mother on some minor issue. The parents thought that angry over being scolded, she would have gone to her friend’s place, but when child didn’t return home till late evening, her parents started looking for her.

After enquiring with her friends and some relatives, the parents went to lodge an FIR in the police nearby police station. The parents allege that police did not lodge the FIR in the case and tried to ignore the matter first.

The following day on April 22, a dead body was found in a canal near Rohini. The body was recovered by KN Katzu Marg police station’s officials. child’s parents allege that they were informed to identify the body two days after the recovery of the dead body. The parents have also alleged that their daughter might have been raped and murdered but the primary reports hasn’t shown any such signs.

The full postmortem report is still being awaited.

When child’s dead body reached her colony, angry residents clashed with the police, calling it a complete case of negligence and delay. Fuming residents blocked the main Bawana-Narela road and laid her dead body in the middle of the road.

The situation took an ugly turn when violent protesters ransacked a police post and set ablaze a policeman’s car and two motorcycles.

Post the clashes, police continues to be deployed in and around the JJ colony.
