Mumbai: Relatives of a ten-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Washim district have approached police alleging negligence by doctors after the girl, vaccinated for rubella, took ill and died at a government hospital.

Pallavi Ingole, resident of Ambedkar Nagar in Washim city, was vaccinated at her school on November 27, according to her family.

Two days later, she had mumps and was admitted to the government hospital at Washim, a local police official said Wednesday.

She was shifted to Akola General Hospital on December 7 from where she was discharged after treatment Monday. But the girl again fell sick and was admitted to the Washim hospital where she died Tuesday, the official said.

Her mother and family members approached police and lodged a complaint alleging that she died because of wrong medical treatment at Washim and Akola hospitals.

Senior police inspector Harish Gawli of Washim police said the police have not received any written complaint yet and a case of accidental death has been registered.

The girl’s viscera has been sent for chemical analysis and the exact reason of death will be ascertained only after the report comes, he said.
