Nagpur: These days an intensive consultation is underway as to who should be made the new chairman of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti, as a vacuum has been created by the demise of its earlier chairman, R S Gawai.

The historical Deekshabhoomi (land of initiation into Buddhism) stands abreast under the banner of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti, Nagpur which was headed by R S Gawai until his demise, on July 25, 2015. Earlier the Smarak Samiti  had 13 members, but due to the demise of R S Gawai and Janardan Mul, the Samiti has shrunk to 11 member-body.

Knowledgeable sources are bringing forward the name of Dr Kamal Gawai, wife of late R S Gawai and also that of Dr Rajendra Gawai. Dr Kamal Gawai is not member of Smarak Samiti while Dr Rajendra Gawai is. Its is likely that one of the two names may be decided unanimously.

Besides, the name of Smarak Samiti’s general secretary Sadanand Fulzele is also on the waiting, but it depends on his willingness. There are other names also in the offing, but the question is whether the Ambedkarites would accept them. However, now all eyes of Republicans are set at appointment of new chairman of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti, as two months have already passed since 59th Dhammachakra Pravartan Divas.
