“Can wearable computers fitness gadgets be more harmful than smoking?”

Internet of Things
In the 1930s and 1940s, smoking became the norm for both men and women in the United States, and a majority of physicians smoked. At the same time, there was rising public anxiety about the health risks of cigarette smoking. One strategic response of tobacco companies was to devise advertising referring directly to physicians. As ad campaigns featuring physicians developed through the early 1950s, tobacco executives used the doctor image to assure the consumer that their respective brands were safe. Concurrently the Health and fitness wearables that are untested, unscientific and can be a cause for dissipated anxiety. They have already risen concerns over what is coming as an aid to health today may turn detrimental tomorrow.

“Harmful radiation emitted gadgets causes reduced sperm counts, headaches, eye irritation, loss of appetite, nausea, sleep disruption and mood swing.”

In today’s world there is a monomania of using latest gadgets, which has becomes synonymous with high end lifestyle. Gizmos and gadgets have become both fashionable and indispensable for status conscious households, but these are surely coming at a price.

The Electro-Magnetic Radiation (EMR) and radio signals, which are emitted continuously by these gadgets, have emerged as one of the most formidable forms of pollution and a major health concern creating a hazard. In the ubiquitous era of cell phone, which provides round the clock connectivity, is wreaking havoc on the human body silently and incessantly. EMR has been categorized as a slow poison by some of the countries.

The fitness freaks or amateur all use gadgets like Smart Watches and other wearable gadgets. When Cell phone is kept most of the time either in the chest pocket or trouser pocket. Even if it is not in use, it still interferes with the nearby connection towers and emitted radiation can be harmful to the area of human body close to the cell phone. All this may lead to disturbance in the heart beat patterns because the natural electrical pacemakers interfere with the artificial radiation generated through these devices.

Keeping mobile phone in trouser pocket increases manifold, the possibility of reduced sperm count. A person could also suffer headaches, eye irritation, loss of appetite, nausea, sleep disruption and mood swing, etc. Children are at greater risk due to thinner skulls and a developing nervous system. Pedestrians are at greater risk hundreds of pedestrians in theare hit distracted by their mobiles. It is also a serious hazards when people tend to use cell phone and other gadgets while driving which may lead to fatalities.

In the recent years the growth of mobile phone market has been phenomenal. Today India ranks second on the list of the countries with 79.3% of the population being mobile phone users as of October 2015.This is the age of “Internet of Things”. The situation is getting even more complicated because of alarming increase in other wireless devices such as the WiFi and all devices connected wirelessly. India does not have guidelines on setting standards for controlling radiation. While there are no research on the health effects of wearable computers, we can hypothesize on data based on existing research on ill effects of cell phone radiation.

The World Health Organization panel consisted of 31 scientists from 14 countries. In which the panel concluded that cell phones were “Possibly Carcinogenic” and the devices could be as harmful as certain dry-cleaning chemicals and pesticides. The W.H.O. panel also concluded that the farther away a device is from one’s head, the potency of hazards reduces thus texting or surfing the Web will not be as dangerous as making calls, with a cell phone stuck on the ears.

Similar concerns arouse with advent of Google glass for the same reasons. Wearable technology will continue to expand and develop, with the likes of Apple and Google leading the way, of that there is no doubt. But the hyperbole of use of gadgets should be dramatically reduced in adults and Children alike by limiting the time they spend using cell phone. And if you have a wearable device, you should take it off at night so it does not end up under their pillow, near their brain. Doctors also warn that women who are pregnant should be extra cautious with all of these technologies. As radiations are very harmful for pregnant lady’s growing fetus.
