VNIT’s Techno-Fest ‘AXIS’-2014 from Sept 26

IMG_4519Nagpur: The 14th edition of  annual technical festival AXIS 2014 organised by Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology’s (VNIT) will be from September 26 to 28, 2014.

The  Techno-Fest will be inaugurated  by former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, followed by the address and interaction of students with him, informed Director of VNIT Dr Narendra Chaudhari while addressing the press on Tuesday, September 16.

Over the years, AXIS has become a Central India’s renowned science and technology symposium. Engineering talent from across the country participates in the festival. Axis 2013 had 6000 students taking part in it and prizes worth Rs 10,000,00 distributed.

The entire budget of AXIS is raised by students through sponsorships and associations with reputed companies like Auto Desk, Sunil Hi-tech, Capgemini, TCS, IBM, Persistent amongst others.

The core committee of AXIS comprising students from 3rd year presented a power point presentation of the events to be held during the AXIS.

The students said that this year the tag line is  ‘Challenge conventions’, through which they want to urge people associated with the event to think differently and come up with new technological solutions to solve day to day  problems.

A grand exhibition by Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) with participation of over 10 research labs across the nation will be held. The exhibition would display models, projects and products developed by DRDO. Along with that, Atomic Mineral Directorate (AMD) would also showcase its research activities in the field of atomic and nuclear minerals at AXIS’!4, informed Dr. Chaudhari.

AXIS’14 has last month also conducted various workshops like Sixth-Sense Robotics, Biped Robotics, Internet of Things amongst others to provide exposure of the current and future technologies germinating around the world.

Over 30 technical events and competitions based on technical problem statements and industrial situations will also be conducted. It will provide a platform for students to apply their knowledge and compete with fellow students across the nation. Events will cover the fields of Automation and Robotics, Software and Electronics, Construction Design and Architecture and Management events.

A total of about 40-50 stalls will be there in the exhibition. Various events like Junior Scientist and Dexter and workshops for the high school students will be organized to provide them with technological exposure.

Exhibitions to be held:

DRDO

AXIS being a Technical Fest, puts forth an excellent platform for the Defense Research and Development Organization, Ministry of Defense to inspire young minds to think beyond the box. The host laboratory for the event is DRDO Gwalior. It will set up 12 laboratories for participation in AXIS which hopes to incline students towards the field of research and development. It will put on display projects, products and demo models to update about the happenings in the sector.

Tech-Connect

Tech Connect will  showcase VNIT’s research progress over the years. It would be a technical gallery displaying various research projects, patents and products developed by VNIT students as well as faculties. This initiative would be an industry-student interaction, providing a platform for students that will motivate them in the field of research. Visitors of the Fest will also get to know about the various research projects at VNIT.

AMD

The Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research identifies and evaluates uranium resources required for the Atomic Energy Programme of India. AXIS will host the organization to present its research work in an exhibition that will acquaint the students with the work of AMD and its prospects in the future.

The press conference was addressed by Dr. Narendra S. Chaudhari, Director, VNIT Nagpur. Others who attended the press conference included Dr. Y.B. Katpatal, Prof In Charge AXIS, Dr. G. P. Singh, Dean (Students Welfare) Dr. H. M. Suryawanshi, Dean (R&C), and Dr. S.S. Bhat Prof Incharge Industry Institute Interaction Cell, Dr. A. Patel and Dr. Mahesh Verma.  The Core Committee of AXIS present include Akshay Kulkarni, Kartik Madabushi, Manas Tewani, Nishchay Singatkar, Prathmesh Mise, Yogesh Rane, Rohit Mule, Sachin, Nethi, Abhay Joshi, Mihir Hardikar, Jeetu Ram, Megha Asawa and Roli Gupta.
