The high-profile MBA course, it appears, is losing charm. The colleges running the MBA course are facing the same fate as that of engineering colleges. Admissions in MBA colleges of the region have shown a dismal trend, the same which is bogging the engineering colleges, too. Around 4047 seats were for grab in MBA stream. However, after the two CAP rounds held till now, 2830 seats have remained vacant.
The huge number of vacant seats is depicting a picture that students are not that interested in taking admissions to MBA colleges in Nagpur region. This disturbing aspect is seen even when the colleges are not taking donations for the admissions. The MBA stream is losing its sheen due to less number of job opportunities being generated in the field.
Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), which conducts the admissions, will now be holding the counseling round for about 52 MBA colleges of Rastrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) and Gondwana University. The first two rounds saw only 1778 MBA seats being taken up.
In fact, for 4047 MBA seats, a total of 3935 students had applied initially. The high number of applications made it clear that this year the admission status will be in good. But after the first rounds, the hopes faded, with only 44 percent seat occupancy reported. The admissions through counseling round will begin from July 31.
Less occupancy, warning bells for future: Academicians
According to academicians, less number of job opportunities and increasing number of MBA colleges are resulting in seats remaining vacant. Many students are opting for doing the course from other reputed universities based out of Nagpur. The trend is disturbing. The less occupancy could summarily be termed as warning bells for future, said the academicians.
