Nagpur: Growing discontent among Medico students over former Deputy Dean of Government Medical College and Hospital Dr Makrand Vyawahare only spread out to other Medical Colleges in the city. Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (Mayo) expressed their solidarity with the members of MARD at Government Medical College and Hospital.

students-rally

The MBBS students of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC or Mayo) on Tuesday extended their full support to the striking students and resident doctors of GMCH who are demanding stern action against Dr Makrand Vyawahare, Head of the Forensic Science Department, for harassing junior doctors.

The IGGMC students gathered in the premises of the hospital and raised slogans demanding action against Dr Vyawahare. “A Forensic PG student attempting suicide and blaming Dr Vyawahare for harassment and a female junior resident charging Dr Vyawahare of mental as well as sexual torture is a serious matter. Dr Vyawahare is creating atmosphere of fear among the students by threatening them with spoiling of their future should not be tolerated any further. A stern action should be initiated against the Head of the Forensic Science Department,” demanded the Mayo students while extending support to striking GMCH students

Why such a big hue and cry over a Doctor?

Well, the fact is the students and faculty members had to face tyranny and autocratic behavior of the Deputy Dean. Apart from a Forensic Post Graduate student attempting suicide and blaming Dr Vyawahare for harassment and a female Junior Resident Doctor charging Dr Vyawahare of mental as well as sexual harassment is a serious matter.  So why did he get away with just removal from the post of Deputy Dean?

Contact with Ministers can help get away with any charges

Very close sources claimed that Dr Makrand Vyawahare is the brother-in-law of a senior leader in the present State government. If any normal citizen or any official is charged by any female subordinate of sexual harassment, he is immediately arrested. The law has taken serious cognizance to such complaints nowadays. Yet for reasons best known to the law enforcement agencies, this Doctor Makrand Vyawahare is not even arrested.

Can we trust Forensic Reports?

Having a retrospective effect, can all the Forensic Reports signed by Dr. Makrand Vyawahare be trusted? Can legal action be taken on the basis of his reports against the accused? Sources claimed that he had, on more than one occasion, torn the Forensic Reports drafted by the Resident Doctors and had made a fresh one and submitted it to the relevant authorities. Some financial receipts could have been involved in this correction or change in Forensic Reports. This speaks about the unreliability of such Forensic Reports especially if such doctors change the reports for financial gains.
