Nagpur: In a happy tide for Nagpurians and Vidarbhites, a unit of All India Marathi Film Corporation is likely to be set up in the city, to represent the artistic talent of entire Vidarbha. After actor Vijay Patkar took over the charge All India Marathi Film Corporation as its chairman, the demand, which was constantly being made that a unit of All India Marathi Film Corporation should be set up in Nagpur for entire Vidarbha region so that the thespians might find a suitable platform for growth of their talent.The unit of Marathi Film Corporation could not find its place here just because of shortage of membership of Vidarbha on its board.
Revealing the cause of delay, Patkar said that the proposal for opening a unit for Vidarbha in Nagpur was under consideration for past 10 years, but knowing that not even 500 members might be available from all 11 districts of Vidarbha the proposal was kept pending, though Vidarbha has a very good potential for film production and it has made a tremendous progress in the field for past 10 years. Making a passing reference of Nasik he informed that the Corporation opened its unit at Nasik because of strength of membership, about 1500. After Nasik, Nagpur stands chances for a new unit, he added.
Commenting on the scope of film production in Vidarbha, Patkar observed, every year maximum 10 films are produced from Vidarbha and besides this there are good film-directors in Vidarbha. According to him, considering all these factors there would be no problem in opening a new unit of Marathi Film Corporation for Vidarbha in Nagpur.

Uptil now the artists were required to go to Mumbai for registration of new film and its production, and there were other complications like seeking of grants, pension of artists, various technical issues, etc. When the unit opens at Nagpur, all such problems will not be faced. Vidarbha has better locations for film-shooting, and Mumbai-based directors love Vidarbha for this purpose. It will provide opportunity to organize film-festivals and sound-film festivals in Vidarbha.
