The barbaric incident occurred even when the brother of the murdered boy was lodging a complaint with Yashodhara Nagar Police Station against one of the accused over a brawl erupted earlier in the day.

According to police, the chain of incidents before the brutal murder began when one of the accused Kaju, son of Nanhe Sheikh, demanded money from Sonu alias Dilshad Ershad Ahmed Malik for enjoying liquor. However, when Sonu refused to give money to Kaju, he slapped him and started a brawl. The incident occurred at about 1500-1600 hours on Sunday near Kamal Talkies Square.
