Today Youth Congress workers, led by their leader, YC general secretary, Kunal Puri called on Maharashtra Medical Education minister, Jeetendra Awhad and informed him about the mal practices and shortcomings of Government Medical College, Nagpur, which was once second number college and in Asia. Dean of medical college, Dr R M Powar was also present on the occasion. A memorandum was also submitted listing all those deficiencies.

It was pointed out that no fresh recruitment of class IV workers has taken place since 2005 and the workers employed by contractor have also not received renewal of the contract. Many class IV workers have retired since then. Due to all this patients relatives have to even carry the stretchers when there is any emergency. As there is no proper up keep there is squalor everywhere.

Patients and their relatives do not get any information about government schemes available for poor patients. National Insurance Company supplies medicines at government hospitals but the patients are asked to bring medicines from outside. All such malpractices are bringing bad name to Congress rule in the state, as patients fail to get proper treatment.

All tests are available at medical college hospital, but patients are always referred to outside pathology labs. Private blood banks also flourish due to malfunctioning of blood banks here.

Even after pointing out all such things dean or the administration has not done anything about this, informs Kunal Puri. Demonstrations, hunger strike too have failed to move hospital administration, said Puri. Same is the case with Super Speciality Hospital, same malpractices are prevalent there too.

When people fail to get relief they blame the ruling government and that is how Congress is not in good books of people he pointed out and demanded immediate steps for rectifying this.
