Nagpur: In a bizarre incident, a live-in woman’s ‘boyfriend’ raped her 17-year-old daughter and impregnated her by threatening to defame her mother. The victim girl is pregnant for 7 months. The police have arrested the accused and the girl has been admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). The incident occurred in Butibori police jurisdiction near Nagpur.
According to the police, the accused Surendra Pathak (52) is a native of Madhya Pradesh. He is a construction engineer and came to Nagpur in search of work. He started living in Butibori. A 36-year-old female labourer was working with him. The woman’s husband left her 16 years ago and was living with her daughter. Surendra is addicted to alcohol. After getting to know the woman, he helped her financially. He approached the woman saying that he was unmarried and living alone. He observed that the woman was also alone. He began to accompany her to work. He also enticed her to stay together and support each other. The woman got caught in his trap.
Police further said that the accused Surendra Pathak came to stay at the woman’s house. Initially, the woman’s daughter refused to live with both of them. But, her mother convinced her. Subsequently, the accused Surendra started living in the same house with the mother-daughter duo. The victim girl’s mother was not at home last January. Surendra came home drunk. Seeing the girl changing her clothes at home, an evil eye fell on her. He sexually assaulted her. The girl resisted him angrily and threatened to tell mother in the evening about the heinous act of Surendra. He told her about his affair with his mother. He also threatened to defame the mother in the village. So the girl avoided telling her mother. This ‘encouraged’ the accused Surendra to exploit her sexually. In the month of March, he demanded sexual favour from the girl at night. When she refused, he raped her. But she maintained silence fearing her mother’s disgrace. After that, Surendra abused the girl many times and impregnated her.
According to police, the accused Surendra ‘married’ the woman saying that he was single. However, Surendra has a wife and three children. The victim got scared after getting pregnant. She did not tell anyone for fear that her mother would be angry if she told her about the pregnancy. The mother became suspicious after she was seven months pregnant. The girl was taken to the doctor. Subsequently, Surendra’s act was exposed.
Acting on a complaint, the Butibori police have registered a case and the victim girl has been admitted to GMCH. The accused Surendra Pathak has been arrested under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act.
