Woman raped in Satranjipura Zone office; health deptt officer booked

Nagpur News : The safety of women in city has become a concern for administration. The rising number of molestation and rapes has raised several questions over their safety and security in the city. No place seems secure for them. Lakadganj police have booked a health department officer for allegedly raping a 40-year-old woman in the government office. Cops swung into action after the victim lodged complaint and they have launched a massive manhunt for the culprit.

The accused has been identified as Chandan Meshram, who worked at Kamgar Bhavan with Health Department of Santanjipura Zone. The accused phoned the 40-year-old victim, informed that her certificate was ready, and asked her to come to the office as soon as possible. The woman reached the office in the evening. She met Chandan who forcefully took her behind an almirah at the first floor of Health Department, Kamgar Bhavan, Corporation office of Satranjipura Zone office No. 7. He allegedly raped the woman and threatened her to kill her children if she narrates the incidence to anyone. The horrifying incidence took place on December 18, 2013 between 6 pm and 6.30 pm.

The woman kept mum over the issue fearing her children’s safety. However, she later gathered courage and reached Lakadganj police station to lodge a complaint against Chandan. Cops immediately swung into action and booked Chandan under Sections 376 (2) and 506 of the IPC. Though the accused is still at large but cops have launched a massive hunt for the accused.
