Woman, man booked for abetting SRPF constable to commit suicide over money

Nagpur: Ina curious turn of events, a woman and man have been booked by MIDC police for abetting suicide by SRPF constable Vinod Ghevande who had shot himself with his service revolver at his residence in Jaitala on Wednesday (September 5). Money was reason behind the entire sordid episode.

It may be recalled that the police constable Vinod Bhagwan Ghevande (29), attached to State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) Group XIII had shot himself dead with his service revolver at his residence in Jaitala under MIDC police jurisdiction here on Wednesday afternoon. At that time cops had registered a case of accidental death and launched a thorough investigation into the matter.

During the investigations, it got revealed that the deceased Vinod Ghevande taken Rs 13,000 from the accused Sangita Jadhav on interest two years ago and Rs 20,000 from another accused Akash Zade (22), resident of Adarsh Colony, Wanadongri, six months back. But since the deceased Vinod was unable to repay the loaned amounts, interest was growing. As Vinod was not paying their money, both the accused started threatening him and warned him of breaking his hands and legs. Fed with the harassment, Vinod committed suicide by shooting himself by his service revolver at his residence Plot No. 31, Datey Layout, Jaitala on Wednesday (September 5).

Based on the probe report and a complaint lodged by Priyanka Ghevande (25), wife of deceased, MIDC Woman PSI J V Gire booked the accused Sangita Jadhav and Akash Zade under Sections 306, 506 of the IPC read with Sections 39, 45 of Maharashtra Money Lending (Regulation) Act. Further probe is underway.
