Woman chain-snatcher caught red-handed while in the act in Dharampeth

Nagpur: An alert man caught a woman chain-snatcher red-handed while trying to rob a middle aged woman in Dharameth locality on Sunday. The accused woman was later handed over to Sitabuldi police.

A resident of Hazari Pahad, Godavari Rajendra Chaudhary (50), along with her daughter, had come to Dharampeth around 7.30 pm on Sunday to witness Ram Navami Shobhayatra. Later, Godavari and her daughter were standing in line for prasad in front of Ganesh Sagar Restaurant. Taking advantage of rush of crowd, the accused Anju Ashish Khandare (30), resident of Viktubaba Nagar, Takalghat, tried to remove gold chain from Godavari’s neck slyly. However, a man standing nearby, noticed Anju’s act and caught her red-handed. She was later handed over to Sitabuldi police.

Woman PSI Yelkewad booked the accused Anju Khandare under Sections 379, 511 of the IPC and placed her under arrest. Further probe is on.

However, in another incident, a woman was robbed of her gold chain worth Rs 40,000 while witnessing the Shobhayatra near Laxmibhavan Square on the same day. Kamalabai Dhotre, resident of Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Pandhrabodi, along with her neighbour Archana Rajesh Waghade (38), was witnessing Shobhayatra on Ramnagar-Laxmibhavan Square Road around 7.30 pm. At the same time, an unidentified person removed a gold chain worth Rs 40,000 Godavari was wearing.

Ambazari ASI Yadavrao has registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC and searching for the unidentified chain-snatcher.
