Winter Session set to witness rain of questions being raised in both Houses over vital issues

Nagpur: It would be raining heavily in winter! The Winter Session of Maharashtra Legislature beginning in the Second Capital City of Nagpur from December 8 is likely to witness MLAs raining questions over various issues. The Vidhan Sabha (Assembly) has received almost 5000 questions while Vidhan Parishad (Council) is grappling with more than 1500 to be tabled for discussion.

The Winter Session is supposed to be crucial for Vidarbha and the MLAs from the region strive hard to steal the show and be in focus by pushing a slew of questions concerning their constituencies. Similarly, MLAs from other parts of Maharashtra too try to be in forefront with their questions. However, it is a different story for every question. Few get deserving limelight and create heat in both Houses as well. Some are routinely discussed and forgotten. Majority go untouched due to paucity of time.

This time, the Vidhan Sabha is hosting 130 new members and their enthusiasm would be brimming the inexperience notwithstanding. Though the new members learnt few lessons in the training classes over conduct of the House, many go overboard in a bid to showcase their concern for people. And get censured by the Presiding Officer. But the show goes on.

No list of MLAs in Secretariat!!

The Winter Session is just three days away but the Secretariat has so far not received details of entire 288 Assembly members. No information from MLAs themselves has put the Secretariat in a spot and therefore the smooth working is likely to get hit.

The Secretariat, on its part, has geared up for the Session with every department busy in its designated work. However, many babus are facing an unprecedented dilemma in the absence of full-fledged list of 288 MLAs. Post election, it is mandatory for MLAs to furnish details of residential addresses, date of election, date of completion of tenure, phone numbers and other information to Legislature Secretariat. But many MLAs have gone dud. The delay in furnishing details would certainly put spokes in smooth functioning of Secretariat and thereby making Winter Session lackluster.
