Nagpur: A protest march led by All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) on Monday drew huge participation of workers from the unorganised sector such as servants, school nutrition workers, hand pump repair and maintenance workers, construction site labourers, maids, electricity workers and others.
The protesters, led by Shyam Kale, Mohan Sharma, Raju Desle and Babla Rawat, made 22 demands including minimum pay of Rs 26,000 for Aanganwadi workers, allotting fix remuneration to Gram Rozgar Sevaks, travel pay and incentive allowance, abolition of National Monetisation Pipeline.
Owing to the huge crowd, commuters had to take a detour to reach their destination. The adjoining VIP Road, Tekdi Road, Civil Lines area witnessed traffic jams on Monday afternoon. In a late evening development on Monday, a delegation of AITUC met Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and submitted a memorandum of their demands to him. Shinde assured to convene a meeting on December 20 for further talks with the departments concerned.
