rallyNagpur: One could notice many rallies taken out by youth groups, NGOs and political parties on Nagpur city roads on the occasion of 70th Independence Day. One could see youngsters on two-wheelers violating traffic rules and laws including riding triples, pillion rider standing, pillion rider carrying a heavy flag, blowing their horns and creating sound pollution etc. Above all these violations was the brazen violation of Helmet rule.

The younger generation of political leaders including Bunty Shelke of Congress Party, Munna Yadav of BJP and others from other political parties took out grand rallies. What was disturbing is the way they were brazenly violating traffic rules and laws.

Munna Yadav’s son violates traffic rules and creates nuisance on city road

Son of BJP leader (Central Nagpur) and Chairman of Kamgar Mahamandal (Labour Board) Munna Yadav and the youth activists and workers of BJP were involved in hooliganism in the rally taken out on Independence Day. The traffic was hit by his rally. The very loud blaring music played by the DJ on massive speakers as part of the rally created noise pollution.

If this was not enough, the youth workers along with Munna Yadav’s son climbed atop a Star Bus and danced on the bus.

Similarly Bunty Shelke of Congress Party too took out a rally. The two-wheeler riders who were part of this rally too were not seen wearing helmets.

No exemptions to anyone; DCP Traffic

DCP Traffic Patil while speaking to Nagpur Today categorically stated that there is no such exemption given to anyone for riding without helmets. However, in order to take action against the hundreds of youth riding without helmet, we need that many traffic policemen too. However, she said that is it not the duty of every citizen to abide by the laws. She added that the police personnel of relevant police-stations could also take action. But taking penal action too requires a good number of cops.

DCP (Traffic) Patil said that till 3 pm penal action has been taken against 300 erring motorcyclists who were driving triples. Another 150-200 two-wheelers and four-wheelers were penalized for rash driving.
