Nagpur/Mumbai: Weird are the working styles of local bodies in Maharashtra. One would always find these civic bodies grabbing the headlines for one nasty issue or another. Bruhanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), ruled by Shiv Sena, has been caught in the web of such bizarre working style.

The Shops and Establishment Department of BMC has issued online certificate for a ‘Ladies Bar and Restaurant’ in the name of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta is also sailing in the same boat as a certificate for a ‘Hookah Parlour’ has been issued in his name. No need to guess that this shabby affair of BMC has left the Chief Minister and Municipal Commissioner red-faced.

In the Chief Minister’s ‘Ladies Bar and Restaurant’ certificate the address mentioned is 02, Varsha, Napean Sea Road, Malabar Hill, Mumbai-400026.

Everybody knows that Varsha is official residence of Fadnavis at the mentioned address. Similarly, the address mentioned in the certificate of Ajoy Mehta’s ‘Hookah Parlour’ is office in BMC Headquarters, Second Floor, Mahapalika Marg, Mumbai-400001. Both the certificates in the names of Fadnavis and Mehta have been issued between August 24, 2018 and August 23, 2019. These two certificates have been issued by office of ‘D’ Section of BMC’s Shops and Establishment Department.

The bungle clearly shows that the certificates were issued without proper inspection and enquiry. The officials of BMC have not confirmed whether the certificates were issued by the civic body.
