WCL registers highest ever growth in production

Nagpur: Western Coalfields Limited, Nagpur based Miniratna CPSU, a Subsidiary of Coal India Limited has registered highest ever growth in coal production during just concluded fiscal 2015-16. The company has recorded a growth of about 9% which is highest in last 30 years. This growth more important as WCL was continuously registering negative growth since last five years till 2013-14 and made a turn-around first time with 3.4% growth during 2014-15. WCL has recorded highest composite volume of production of about 184 MCum with 23.16%, which is ever highest and third highest amongst all the subsidiaries of Coal India Limited during FY 2015-16.

WCL has registered coal production of 44.82 Million Tonnes with absolute growth of 8.9% during FY 2015-16, over last year’s 41.15 Million Tonnes. Similarly, the highest ever growth has been registered in OB removal of 155.15 MCum with 26.2% growth as compared to last fiscal. The company has performed excellently in Coal Offtake with 2.6% growth over the last year. Rake loading of 17.9 rakes/ day against actual of 16 rakes / day last year with an ever highest growth of 19.4% over last year.

The company has opened 11 projects with ultimate capacity of 24.84 MTY (6 new projects & 5 replacement projects) with sanctioned capital of Rs.3601.04 Crores during past fiscal & company has also taken the highest ever land (in last 25 years) 2796.73 Ha in its physical possession which is 104.08% more than last year’s 1370.43 Ha , which enabled WCL to open New Projects. Company has installed -100 mm crushers during FY 2015-16 for supplying -100mm coal to Power houses.

While adding many colorful feathers to the cap, the company has also launched many pioneering and widely appreciated initiatives during the Financial Year 2015-16, WCL has Opened of four skill development centers in its command areas, where 1711 PAPs and villagers living in and around of its command areas were trained during the year 2015-16.

WCL has initiated for gainful utilization of water discharged from the Mines under “Jal Sahayog”, “K2K” and contributed towards “Jalyukta Shivar” schemes, where thousands of villagers were benefitted.
Eco Mine Tourism, the first of its kind in the country. The initiative was appreciated and specially mentioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India during his “Man Ki Baat” on March 27, 2016. The motive of the initiative is to create awareness of coal mining & ecological balance among the populace. The initiative has been tied up with Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation to attract Indian as well as foreign visitors.

Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan of Swachh Bharat Mission WCL has constructed 4478 number of toilets in government schools of 10 districts of Madhya Pradesh with an approved budget of 86.62 Crores.
Company has bestowed with eleven number of prestigious awards from various prestigious organizations and Institutions for excellence in various fields during fiscal 2015-16.
