WCL gives compensation for land to farmer after a decade

Nagpur: Werstern CoalfieldsLimited (WCL) had acquired land in Bhangegaon for opencast mine in Silewara sub area coalmine in Saoner constituency. the farmers who were not given compensation did not leave their right over the land whereas continued farming there.

On last Tuesday afternoon the WCL administration forcibly ran over the JCB machine on standard cotton crop of a farmer to make road for their destination. This inhuman act of WCL has incurred a heavy loss to the farmer.

On contacting the WCL authorities they said that they had made a road through the field to reach the dumping yard. When local people mounted pressure on the WCL management for the farmer’s compensation they gave him compensation through cheque. The WCL management gave compensation for the acquitred land nearly after 10 years that is decade but conveniently avoided issue of job.


According to the WCL administration in Bhangaon 131.90 hectare of land was acquired for open cast mine in area under the ‘Coal Bearing Act’. This included Deorao Dhoke’s 1 acre land. Since he had not got the compensation he continued farming and leave right over land. During this period on last Tuesday WCL management forcibly ran the JCB machine over the crop and created a road of 20ft in width.


It may be mentioned that the land owner Dhoke was not given prior initimation. The work was suddenly started and after a lot of protest the work was stopped. The compensation for Dhoke’s cotton crop was not given. But due to the protest by the locals the compensation Cheque of Rs 36,01,259 for the land was given. The ward of the farmer has not been given job in WCL where as per the rule for one acre of land Rs 10 to 12 lakh compensation and job to farmers ward should have been given.
