Sources said the place was deserted long before and the water tank was lying defunct for the past many years. Though the area was fenced around, it is often visited by the local youths who drop in here to consume liquor or doing drugs. The area also holds the infamy of the theft of material lying in the compound.

On Friday both Rangari and Dangre were standing under the abandoned water tank, when suddenly the roof collapsed and fell upon them. Rangari died on the spot after being crushed under the slab. Police rushed the spot at 1.45 pm, when the people who gathered around informed Ajni police station.

PSI Sandeep K. More said five boys went to the spot, where four of them went under roof of water tank to smoke the cigarette. Sources informed that the said railway pump house was built hundred years back when Ajni was in early years of its existence.

Meanwhile Ajni PI Laxman Dumre informed that the area has become the hub of drug doers and gamblers for quite some time.

Railway Majdoor Sangh Secretary Habib Khan said their union has repeatedly brought the attention of railway officials towards the place being used as hub for anti-social activities, however, all their request went on deaf years. The result is now for all to see, he added.
