Nagpur: Riding on the overwhelming support from different quarters, the Vidarbha Rajya Andolan Samiti (VRAS) will hold a two-day mock Assembly session of “Vidarbha State” in the Second Capital City of Nagpur on October 3 and 4 as part of their demand for formation of a separate state and mobilizing more support for it.
According to VRAS officials, the symbolic two-day session will be held ahead of the Winter Session of the State Legislature scheduled on December 5. The mock session is expected to bring a resolution to oppose the Maharashtra Legislature, they said.
The Samiti plans to take out a big morcha to Vidhan Bhavan and hold a massive sit-in agitation during the winter session of Maharashtra Legislature held every year in Nagpur. The VRAS Working Committee has chalked out details of the two-day symbolic Assembly session, to be held at Deshpande Hall in Civil Lines area of the city.
VRAS Convener Ram Nevle said a development model of the region will be presented during the proposed mock session. Besides, the financial viability of the new state would also be discussed during the event. The VRAS members will discuss strategy to promote industrialization and generate employment opportunities in Vidarbha, tackle farmers’ suicide and malnourishment and to curb the Maoist menace in the region.
Besides presenting an ‘annual budget’ for balanced development of all 11 districts of Vidarbha, the mock session would hold discussion on how feasible is Vidarbha as a State, economically and politically. It would also hold debates on how to resolve problems of Naxalite violence, providing cheaper electricity without load-shedding regimes, increasing irrigation coverage, Nevle stated..
