Padmashree Prof. B L Deekshatulu to grace the occasion

Vnit Conocation in Nagpur 2Nagpur Today: One of the reputed colleges of engineering in the city Visveshvaraya National Institute of Technology, (VNIT) will be holding its XIIth Convocation on Monday, September 15, 2014 from 12:30 pm in the Auditorium of the Institute.

Former Director of National Remote Sensing Agency, Hyderabad Padmashree Prof. B L Deekshatulu who is a Distinguished Fellow of the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT), Hyderabad and Professor of Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore will be the Chief Guest of the Convocation.

While briefing the press, Director of VNIT Dr. Narendra Chaudhari informed that a total 1028 students will receive their degrees. Thirty three students will receive Doctorate (Ph.D), 306 students will receive Masters Degree in Technology (M.Tech), one student will receive M.Tech by Research and one more student will receive Masters of Architecture (M.Arch) by Research, Thirty Seven students will receive M.Sc. The number of students graduating as Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) and Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) is 650.

The Convocation programme includes academic procession followed by the award of degrees, presentation of medals and prizes. The Director’s Report will be presented and the Chief Guest will deliver the Convocation address.

Dr. Chaudahri also highlighted some of the prominent development of VNIT which included the fact that the Institute has created 11 positions of Associate Deans.  These positions provide an opportunity for the leadership development to promising faculty members.  VNIT has adopted the flexible four-tier faculty recruitment, and recruitment of non-teaching staff as per Recruitment Rules (RRs) of MHRD, Govt. of India.

He also mentioned about the Student-Mentor Programme that has been introduced in July 2013, and it has successfully been running in the Institute.

Dr. Chaudahri further informed about four projects, having joint research collaborations, which included ‘Biomedical Engineering and Technology Center Incubation’ (approx. funding Rs.39.39 crores for the whole project).  The project will be executed jointly with IIT Bombay, VNIT Nagpur and College of Engineering, Pune.

He also informed that during the last four months, the Institute has signed MoUs with the Industries, neighboring Institute in India like (SGSITS) Indore, (IIEST) Shibpur, Kolkata, and with foreign universities in Norway, Malaysia, South Korea etc. for collaborative research and student & faculty exchange programmes.

‘Reliable, Efficient System for Community Energy System (RESUCUES)’ (approx. Funding Rs.14 crores). ‘Advanced Centre of Excellence for Composite Structures (ACE-COST)’ funded by Aeronautical Research and Development Board (ARDB), Government of India.  VNIT has purchased Fatigue Testing System costing Rs.1 crore under this project.  About 60% work of the project is completed. Dr. A G Keskar of the Centre of Excellence for Combedded Systems: funded by TEQIP-World Bank (Rs. 5 crores).

The press conference was addressed by Director, VNIT Nagpur Dr. Narendra S Chaudhari. During the press conference Dean (Academic) Dr. O R Jaiswal, Dean (Faculty Welfare) Dr. P M Padole, Dean (R&C) Dr. H M Suryawanshi, Dean (P&D) Dr. S. R. Sathe, Dean (Students Welfare) Dr. G P Singh and Registrar Dr. R.R. Yerpude and Associate Dean (Public Relation) Dr. Anupama Kumar were present.
