: While speaking exclusively with Nagpur Today, Leader of Opposition in NMC and City Congress President Vikas Thakre said that there are many discrepancies and financial fraud that has come to fore in the Accountant General’s Audit report. Many Congress party activists and office-bearers participated in the rally which was taken out on September 8, 2015.

He claimed that the Company that is handling the transport in Nagpur city Vansh Nimay has failed to pay Rs 8 crores to the Regional Transport Office. This has made the RTO to sieze many city buses. These buses were procured with money paid by the government, claimed Vikas Thakre. Why should the citizens of Nagpur face dearth of buses when the government has paid for the purchase of the buses and the Vansh Nimay Company has failed to pay the taxes?

When the question was raised in the House, the then Mayor Anil Sole had directed to file an FIR against the owner of Vansh Nimay. It was brought to notice that the contract to Vansh Nimay had made NMC incur huge losses.

The next issue that Vikas Thakre raised during the agitation staged in front of NMC is the wood-supplier of Crematorium. Vikas Thakre alleged that Mahesh Trading Company who has bagged the contract of supplying wood for crematorium has looted Rupees two crores. He claimed that the Accountant General’s report had pointed out that the Supplier of wood for crematorium Mahesh Trading Company has allegedly illegally charged Rs 2 crores more than the actual cost of the wood. Vikas Thakre wanted a stern action to be taken against all those responsible for the excessive payments. He also demanded that this Wood supplier be black-listed and no contract be ever given to him in future.

While vehemently elaborating on the present financial crisis of the NMC, he alleged that NMC does not have money to pay the employees for a long time. If they do not have the money to pay the employees their salary till September 20, 2015, the NMC authorities should take back all the vehicles and mobile phones which have been given to the office-bearers of NMC.

Apart from that Vikas Thakre also alleged that there are many civic amenities that need replacement or repair on the earliest. There are many places where the street lights do not work and need repairs. Most of the roads in Nagpur have pot holes that look like craters. The roads need to be repaired at the earliest to avoid accidents. Vikas Thakre also alleged that the garbage does not get picked up on regular basis causing stench and diseases to be spread in many areas.
