Nagpur: The official Congress candidate Vikas Thakre on Tuesday filed his nomination papers for Nagpur Lok Sabha constituency. The party leaders and supporters displayed a massive show of strength on the occasion.
Thakre will take on BJP’s senior leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in the prestigious Nagpur seat.
A rally was taken out to the Collectorate after paying tributes to the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Samvidhan Chowk. Thakre filed his candidature in the presence of senior leaders of Congress and Maha Vikas Aghadi including MPCC President Nana Patole, former Union Minister Vilas Muttemwar, Leader of Opposition in Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar, North Nagpur MLA Nitin Raut, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Vishal Muttemwar along with many other leaders.
Nagpur Lok Sabha constituency is going to witness a prestigious fight in the LOk Sabha poll. Vikas Thakre has been pitted against BJP’s Nitin Gadkari. Thakre, who is known in Nagpur as a dashing leader, also has strong public relations and support.
Thakre said, “I consider myself fortunate that Congress has shown faith in me. Now the campaign will start on the issue of development. Lok Sabha elections are a battle of ideologies. The people of Nagpur are rallying behind him and I am confident people will vote for me in large numbers,” he said.
