Video: Majhi Metro chugs off on trial run in record time

Nagpur: Cheers! The Second Capital City of Nagpur is adding another glorious feather in its cap. This year’s Dussehra has brought an excellent news for Nagpurians as the trial run of Majhi Metro will be conducted on this day i.e. September 30. The trial run of Nagpur Metro is an achievement for Maha Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) as it has completed the first phase of Majhi Metro from South Airport to New Airport of 5.4 kms in record time. 27 months to be precise. The work of 35-kilometre Nagpur Metro Project is going on war-footing.

The trial run will be flagged off by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The Majhi Metro will chug off on the 5.4 km track from Chinchbhuvan to New Airport Station on September 30 at 12 noon on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashmi.

According to Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director of MMRCL, the work of Majhi Metro is going on at a brisk pace. The construction work of Metro Rail began on May 31, 2015 and the trial run is taking place on September 30, in record time of two years and three months only. Along with the trial run, SBI will issue Maha Card, the common mobility card for the public transport system in the city. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman of SBI will be present on this occasion. The card can be used for Nagpur Metro services and for City Bus Transport. This card can also be used for parking in Nagpur Metro Stations. BrijeshDixit said, this card will save around Rs 200 crore of MMRCL as SBI will borne expenditure to install the automatic fare collection system in all 38 stations.
