Unruly autos face police crackdown, pay Rs 31 lakh fine in 4 days

Nagpur: Hundreds of unruly auto-rickshaws plying on the city roads haphazardly faced police crackdown in the 4-day drive undertaken by city traffic cops recently.

The City Traffic Police Unit 3 detained 260 auto-rickshaws and recovered Rs 31.68 lakh fine from the violators. The drive was initiated under the directives of Commissioner of Police Dr. K Venkatesham and DCP (Traffic) Ravindra Singh Pardeshi.

The police teams conducted drive from October 25 to October 28 across the city and cracked a whip on unruly auto-drivers. The police took action against the auto-rickshaws for carrying more passengers than the sitting capacity, illegal plying of auto-rickshaws, and other violations.

The action was taken under the guidance of Traffic Inspector Ashok Bagul. The cops booked total 5785 vehicles in last four days. 562 auto drivers were issued challans. In the recent past, the traffic cops have issued total of 37,297 spot challans, 53,914 e-challans, registered 3626 drunken driving cases, 83 clandestine operation cases charging a total fine of Rs 5 crore. The Traffic police also recovered Rs 3crore fine from January to May.
