Nagpur: The tainted Kamptee-based firm, M/s Abhi Engineering Company, is again in the news, of course for wrong reasons. Two trucks of the company, transporting material stolen from Koradi Thermal Power Plant, were caught by security guards. The matter even reached Koradi police. The cops hesitatingly registered an ordinary case and hastily granted bail to the two truck drivers, too. On verification, the information came to the fore that the stolen material was being taken to an under-construction bungalow of a leader and also to an under-construction super market site in nearby Nanda village.
According to sources, construction activities are underway for new projects of Koradi Thermal Power Plant. A contrctor, 2-3 years ago, had established a concrete mixer unit in the power plant complex. The unit carries out civil works for the new projects. The tainted firm, Abhi Engineering Company, run by Kamptee-based Ajju Vijayverghese, allegedly connived with the said company and pilfered ready-mix material, originally meant for Koradi plant, openly. However, the security guards of the plant stopped the two trucks carrying the stolen material around 4 pm on last Saturday. When confronted, one of the truck drivers told the guards that the material is being taken to a leader’s under-construction bungalow. The other truck driver informed that he is taking the material to the Nanda-based under-construction super market. Both the trucks allegedly belonged to M/s Abhi Engineering Company and were reportedly laden with iron bars in huge quantity.
Based on the statements of the two truck drivers, the security guards alerted the Chief Engineer of the Koradi Power Plant Nikhare. Later around 10 pm on the same day, Koradi police, without seizing the trucks, registered a simple theft case against the two drivers and also released them on bail immediately. Political pressure seems to have played the crucial role in saving the skin of owner of the trucks, sources said.
The local people alleged that the material is stolen usually in the night hours and taken to an under-construction bungalow of a leader and also to an under-construction super market site in nearby Nanda village.
The tainted Abhi Engineering Company had earlier also grabbed headlines when the Standing Committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) had cancelled the tenders of the company which had bagged the orders for construction of cement concrete roads in various areas fraudulently. The company, run by Kamptee-based Ajju Vijayverghese, a close aide of District Guardian Minister, faced the action as it was found on scrutiny of tenders that the contractor had misplaced or misled over the experience of carrying such vital works like construction of cement concrete roads.
The contracting firm, Abhi Engineering Corporation, had mentioned of carrying out construction works of Mahagenco as experience while submitting tenders for construction cement concrete roads.
