The show of strength is between two film distributors to be in the ring for presidentship of Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC). One is from Nagpur and the other is from outside Vidarbha. Both are sons of ministers and have succeeded in grabbing higher posts in the Congress party in a short time and by less work. The dynastic background played an important role in their success.

The present MPYC President Kadam and the General Secretary Raut are again in the race for the presidentship of the Youth Wing of Congress party. However, after the last election, both failed to perform any mentionable work that would have benefited their party. This time, both aspirants have been turning the tables for grabbing the coveted post, and the ministers-fathers of both are leaving no stone unturned in reaching their sons to the top post of MPYC.

According to sources, Kadam provided all out help to Raut for running the film distributorship while both were in MPYC Executive Committee. Kadam and Raut pocketed huge money through Shah Rukh Khan starrer “Chennai Express”. But make no mistake. Film distributorship is like gambling. Gambling can turn into a dangerous two-way street when you least expect it. Weird things happen suddenly, and your life can go all to pieces. Although relations between Kadam and Raut are in good terms but fighting for top MPYC post has been turning out be hot topic of discussion in youth Congress circles, sources said.

Sources said, both Kadam and Raut have ambitions up their sleeves. Kadam aspires for Lok Sabha ticket from Pune and Raut is targeting a reserved constituency in Gondia District for Assembly ticket after grabbing the MPYC presidentship. Nothing wrong in keeping ambitions. However, the ball is in the court of Congress High Command.

According to sources, the former City and District Youth Congress President has tried to convince Rahul Gandhi through a message to National President of Youth Congress Rajiv Satav that the way the elections for office-bearers of MPYC are being conducted, it is causing loss to the party. This election has remained limited to rich-rich Congressmen and a common worker would never an office-bearer. However, there is a possibility that the message could not have reached to Rahul Gandhi, sources said.

Moreover, whenever Kadam visited Nagpur during his tenure, he was always surrounded by non-Congress leaders or workers. A BJP supported Independent Corporator, who handled financial matters of Kadam, NCP Youth leader, former City Samajwadi Party President, Congress opponent advocates were found walking side by side with Kadam. He did not have any time for Youth Congress leaders or workers and even did not respond to their phone calls, sources said.

It may be recalled, the Youth Congress has issued a list of candidates in accordance with its organizational polls for Lok Sabha (city) Executive. Sixteen candidates are in fray for 10 posts and the candidate bagging most votes would be made President. Elections for Assembly segments and State Executive would be held on January 30 and 31 along with Executive for City. A total of 1692 voters (Booth office-bearers) would cast their ballots. Majority of candidates in the list issued by Youth Congress belong to groups of Kunal Raut, son of EGS Minister Nitin Raut, and Anees Ahmed. However, the Nagpur MP Vilas Muttemwar and former minister Satish Chaturvedi have not yet opened their cards.
