Two killed, two injured in separate accidents in Kalamna and Sonegaon

Nagpur: There have been a series of road accidents in the past 48 hours and two other accidents have added to this series. Two persons were killed while two others were injured owning to the reckless driving in Kalamna and Sonegaon areas on Thursday.

In the first accident, an elderly man was killed while two others were injured when a speeding Maruti Van rammed into a stationary truck parked near Andhra-Tamil Road Line in Kalamna. The accident took place around 7 pm on Thursday under the jurisdiction of Kalamna police station. Police informed that a truck driver parked his truck (MH 40 AK 341) near Andhra-Tamil Road Line in Kalamna due to some problem in the truck. As per sources, the road was in a bad shape. Avoiding the bad shape of the road, a Maruti Van (MH 36/4450) driven by Rambhau Tukaram Sakharkar (64) came in a neck-breaking speed and dashed into the stationary truck. The accident resulted in the death of Mahadeo Meshram (60), a resident of Rajnandgaon while the Van driver Rambhau and Sushila Prabhakar Meher sustained severe injuries.

Onlookers informed Kalamna police after which they rushed to the spot and performed panchanama. Body of the deceased was sent to Government Medical College and Hospital for post mortem while the injured were admitted to hospital for immediate medical attention. The Van driver Rambhau, a resident of Santaji Ward, Bhandara has been booked under Sections 279, 337, 338, 304 (a), and 283 of the IPC.

The second accident took place under the jurisdiction of Sonegaon police station on Thursday at around 7.30 pm. According to information, an unidentified vehicle crushed a pedestrian to death on Wardha-Nagpur Road, near Chich Bhavan flyover. The unidentified vehicle was in a high speed and lost control over the vehicle and hit the unknown pedestrian. The middle-aged pedestrian was killed on the spot while the killer driver sped away fearing public wrath.

Sonegoan police performed panchanama of the scene after being informed about the accident. Meanwhile, the body was sent to Government Medical College and Hospital for post mortem. Cops have registered an offence under Sections 279, and 304 (a) of the IPC read with sub sections 134 and 187 of the Motor Vehicle Act against the unidentified driver. Further investigations are in progress.
