Truck allegedly set on fire after it kills one at Mhalgi Nagar square

Nagpur News : An irate mob allegedly set ablaze a truck after it knocked dead a pedestrian and injured other at Mhalgi Nagar square in Sakkardara police station area on Thursday afternoon.

Around 2 pm, Sunil and his younger brother Narendra Kale were crossing the road = when a speeding truck knocked them down. Narendra was crushed to death while Sunil escaped with minor injuries.

The brothers were walking to a nearby marriage hall. It was learnt that as soon as the news of Narendra’s death spread to his relatives, they assembled at the spot and set it on fire. Police said that fearing public wrath; the truck driver fled the scene and is still absconding.

While the eye-witnesses told that the truck was set on fire, police claimed that the truck incidentally caught fire due to technical failure.

“Initial investigation shows that the truck driver was already facing some problem in the truck and on the top of that, he even applied brakes before hitting the brothers. Thus, there was some technical fault that led to fire,” said PSI S D Dambre. He claimed that they have sent the truck to RTO to know he exact fault.

However, eye-witnessed alleged that the truck was set ablaze within minutes after the accident by angry mob. The whole truck had caught fire before the police reach the spot and alert fire department. The fire personnel douse the flames and the situation was brought under control.
