Tricksters rob two bank customers of Rs 80,000 in separate cases

Nagpur: Tricksters targeted two bank customers in different areas on Wednesday and robbed them of cash Rs 80,000 by using their ATM cards. Cops have launched a search to apprehend the accused tricksters.

In the first incident, the victim Geeta Shankar Bokde (37), resident of MHADA Colony, Nari, along with her son had gone to Central Bank of India ATM near PWS College on Kamptee Road around 3 pm on Wednesday to withdraw money. As they were about to enter the ATM, an unidentified miscreant approached them and told them as how to withdraw money. He took the ATM card from Geeta and inserted it into the ATM machine and asked her to press the PIN. However, the trickster soon told Geeta that money is not getting withdrawn from the ATM and returned her a fictitious ATM card bearing the name Pramod Ranolke instead of her original card. Later, armed with the PIN number, the trickster used Geeta’s ATM card and withdrew Rs 40,000 from her account.

Panchpaoli Lady PSI Mokase, based on the complaint of Geeta Bokde, has booked the accused under Section 420 of IPC and searching for him.

Similarly, using the same modus operandi, another trickster in the age group of 20-25 years made fool of a State Bank of India customer. The victim, Mahesh Prabhakarrao Joshi (37) of Mahatma Gandhi Nagar, Hudkeshwar Road, along with wife, had gone to Bank of India ATM on Hudkeshwar Road to withdraw money from his father-in-law Satish Padole’s SBI account. The accused trickster, slyly took the ATM card from Mahesh and after knowing the PIN, handed over a duplicate ATM card of the SBI and vanished from the scene. Later, the young fraudster coolly withdrew Rs 40,000 from another ATM using the Mahesh’s ATM card and its PIN.
