Nagpur: A trickster defrauded a medical practitioner of 55 lakh. The accused has been identified as Pankajkumar Prabhakar Kawde (51), a resident of Nanaji Shastri marg, Khare Town, Dharampeth.

Police said that the complainant Dr Sanjay Vinayakrao Kruplani (42) owns a hitech hospital in Sadar. About two years ago, the accused Kawde had been to Dr Kruplani’s hospital in connection with some physical problem. Kawde became a regular visitor at his hospital and developed a close relationship with Dr Kruplani.

Kawde told Dr Kruplani that he was into the business of oil which is a highly profitable venture. Slowly, Dr Kruplani’s interest grew in that business. Kawde told him that the more one invests, the more he gets the profit. Being convinced with Kawde, Dr Kruplani advanced him 52 lakh to invest in to the business. However, even after two years, the accused could not pay Dr Kruplani a single paise. He used to avoid the conversation giving flimsy reasons.

Dr Kruplani got suspicious and after seeing that the accused is citing one or the other reasons to avoid repayment, Dr Kruplani asked for the return of his money. This time too, Kawde gave evasive replies. He told Dr Kruplani that he had suffered huge losses in the business, that the market is not upbeat. However, after repeated requests, the accused Kawde agreed to return the amount. He told Dr Kruplani that he intends to sell his house to return his money back.

However, he needs 3 lakh more to complete the deal. Hoping to get his money back, Dr Kruplani again gave him 3 lakh, after which Kawde spedaway. Dr Kruplani then lodged a complaint with the police which is invstigating the matter further.
