Nagpur: The tribal students who have been demanding the closure of Direct Benefit Transfer for a long time now, are to conduct a protest again. It is to be mentioned that the students had conducted a massive protest against the same, a few days back, at the Samvidhan Square but, their demands were overlooked. The students had also written to Tribal Development Minister Vishnu Sawra.

Students from all over the Vidarbha region had conducted a massive protest under the banner of ‘Tribal Students Union’ at the Samvidhan Square, few days back. The protest was carried out to abolish the Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme under which, the students have been waiting for their stipends for several months now.

The tribal students, who were to receive a 60 percent subsidy in their bank accounts under Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme soon after taking admission in their respective hostels, await the same for past four months now. As a result, the students of this community are now demanding, the closure of this very scheme. Students of Tribal Students Union, for the same, had written to Tribal Development Minister Vishnu Sawra. They are also demanding that the DBT scheme should not only be closed but the earlier functional scheme should be resumed.

The tribal students are also demanding that the Deendayal scheme should also be discontinued. As is being claimed, the funds provided to the students under this scheme are not sufficient enough to meet their needs.

Students are also complaining of lack of internet facilities in their hostels.
