: A driver, conductor and commuters of a Star Bus were on Saturday left dumbfounded when the Chairman of NMC’s Transport Committee Narendra (Balya) Borkar travelled in the bus without disclosing his identity, initially. Borkar boarded the Star Bus (MH-31/CA 6123) at 2.30 pm from Hingna for Sitabuldi (Mor Bhavan), booked a ticket and experienced for himself the hardship, if any, being faced by the commuters as well as conduction of trips by the operator. After travelling halfway, Borkar ordered the accompanying officials to enquire the passengers about their problems and suggestions, too.

Meanwhile, when the bus reached Shankar Nagar Square stop, the ticket checkers Wankhede and Daffar checked the tickets of passengers and found them travelling with proper tickets.

When the Chairman of Transport Committee himself interacted with passengers, a few pass-holding college students namely Afrin Anjum, Sandeep Baghele, Dinesh Lende stressed the need for additional two trips between 3 pm and 4 pm. Acting on the suggestion, Borkar immediately directed Transport Manager S M Jagtap to ensure two additional trips from Monday. Some of the bus passengers Milind Pawankar and Sarita Barmayya too demanded additional trips on Hingna route during rush hours.

Borkar also noticed some 15-20 passengers travelling standing. Borkar himself then travelled standing.
Borkar also asked the bus driver Naqeeb Khan to carry out break work as whenever the driver applied break the passengers received jerks/jolts making the travel uncomfortable. After completing his travel in the Star Bus, Borkar directed the operator to improve the transport system to the satisfaction of commuters.

Borkar was accompanied by Jagtap, Chaurasia, Lunge and other officials of Transport Department.
