Nagpur: Many four-wheel drivers of Nagpur city probably do not know the concept of main road users having the right of the way. One can often encounter cars, SUVs etc coming onto main road in full speed. They do not even bother if their action causes problems to other road users. One gets the experience of encountering many “James Bond 007 drivers” when they intersect main roads or come on to main roads from lanes and by-lanes.
It was only one day earlier when the new Commissioner of Police opined that the traffic situation in the city needs many corrective measures. The very next day noon at around 12 pm, a Transit hot mixer truck bearing RTO registration No PB-10 / CC-9038 was moving on the road from IT Park towards Mate Square at normal speed. Just when the Transit hot mixer truck was approaching the Mate Square, an errant car driver sped from one of the by lanes situated on the right side and simply came over the main road.
The driver of the Transit hot mixer truck identified as Bhim Singh immediately applied brakes and in a bid to save the occupants of the car swerved the Transit hot mixer truck and hit a road-side tree. In this life saving maneuver, the Transit hot mixer truck driver sustained injuries to his right leg.
All the eye witnesses on the spot claimed that had the driver of the Transit hot mixer truck not swerved, the occupants of the car would have certainly incurred fatal injuries.
Some of the passers-by rushed the injured truck driver to the nearby hospital for treatment. However, the errant car driver did not even stop to investigate the mishap and simply sped off, claimed on-lookers.
At the time of filing the story, the cops of the Ambazhari Police Station were still performing the formalities.
