Nagpur: A heartbreaking incident has been reported from the Wathoda area of Nagpur, where a two-year-old child lost his life after accidentally consuming turpentine, mistaking it for water.
The incident took place in Beedgaon under the jurisdiction of Wathoda Police Station. The deceased has been identified as Advavik Sham Bhadade. According to initial information, the child’s father, Sham Bhadade, works in the catering business.
A few days prior to the incident, painting work had been carried out at their residence, for which turpentine was purchased. After the work was completed, the remaining turpentine was stored in a bottle and kept in a storeroom.
On the evening of April 12, around 7 PM, the child was playing near the house. While playing, he reached the storeroom and unknowingly drank the turpentine, assuming it to be water.
Soon after consuming the chemical, the child’s health began to deteriorate rapidly. Family members rushed him to Bhavani Hospital in Pardi, from where he was referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital due to his critical condition. Despite efforts by doctors, the child could not be saved and passed away during treatment.
The incident highlights the critical importance of safely storing hazardous substances at home, especially in households with young children. Even a moment of negligence can lead to irreversible consequences.
Police have initiated an investigation into the matter. The tragic incident has left the local community in shock, while the family is grieving an unimaginable loss.
