Traffic Branch Unit 4 counsels bike riders booked on Holi

The Traffic Branch Unit 4 of Nagpur Police which had cracked down on motorcyclists riding under the influence of liquor during Holi revelry organised a counselling programme on Saturday (March 18) at its premises and had a word of caution for the offenders. The 307 offending bike riders who were booked for driving under the influence of liquor were called for the programme and counselled by the Traffic cops about the ill effects of such ride.

The initiative of the Traffic Police came after the Commissioner of Police directed them to call all the offenders at their office and provide them counselling over the ill-effects riding bikes under toxic influence.

The programme was attended by DCP (Traffic) Smartna Patil, ACP Ashfaq Sheikh, Senior PI Shyam Sontakke and all the officials and personnel of Traffic Branch Unit 4 apart from 150-200 offenders and Rajabhau Chitnis, Dr Ramakant Kapre and a large number of citizens. Rajabhau Chitnis provided counsel to the violators and asked them to take oath that they will never consume liquor in future. Dr Ramakant Kapre threw light on ill-effects of liquor on health of the consumer.

DCP (Traffic) had a word of caution to the offenders as riding under the influence of liquor not only leads to fatal accidents but also growth of various crimes. The DCP bombarded the violators with a barrage of questions such as “Why you consume liquor?” “For what purpose you enjoy liquor?” etc. The DCP finally urged the liquor addicts to get rid the heady stuff and lead a decent life.

Member of Maitree Parivar Suhas Khare, API Patil, API Narendra Raghtate, constable Ravi Bhoskar worked hard to make the event successful.
