Nagpur: Despite caution sounded by alert citizens over trees in the middle of service road on National Highway between Mental Hospital and Mankapur Stadium Square, the NHAI authorities refused to wake up. Over a dozen trees, left untouched by NHAI on service road, have been posing hazards and inviting mishaps to happen. And it did happen.

On Wednesday morning, a speeding truck crashed on one the trees that left the driver seriously injured and severe damage to the vehicle.

Citizens leaving in nearby areas had cautioned the NHAI authorities about the hazards posed by trees right on middle of service road on National Highway between Mental Hospital and Mankapur Stadium Square. Citizens had urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to remove the trees that were left untouched while constructing the service road on National Highway for reasons – valid or invalid.

The trees on middle of the road have been inviting mishaps to happen. At any other time, the NHAI never gives a thought while cutting hundreds of trees during construction of highways at any place. The trees on the service road could have also been removed considering the hazards they posed for traffic.

Citizens have urged the NHAI authorities to remove the trees immediately and to maintain eco balance, trees could be planted at government lands nearby instead.
